Got some more Gambit art at Wizard World Philadelphia 2009. Included are 2 sketched playing cards. The first is by Billy Tan and the second is by Shawn Alleyne. Shawn also did a really nice commission of Gambit & Rogue in an alley. Thanks man! I also got a commission from Alex Eckman-Lawn. Alex does incredible digital commissions, but he also gave me his rough sketch too. I got a few quick sketches at the con too. They are by Alex Konet, Ian Glaubinger, and John "JKor" Koratzanis. All art will be added to the website shortly.

Andrei Bressan reimagines a Marvel classic

Andrei Bressan is a phenomonal artist. He recently did some work for the Wolverine Origins trading card series. I've been following his work for years on deviant art and he just keeps getting better. I contacted him immediately after seeing this on his website and decided to pull the trigger and buy it. How frickin cool is this piece? Well for starters it's got a new design for a younger looking Gambit costume. Check out the spade bandana he's wearing. Badass! Then check out the Barry Windsor-Smith Wolverine. Are you kidding me? That's insane. Keep your eye on this dude's work. He'll be popping up at Marvel in the next few years. He's too talented not to be. In addition he drew a quick sketch of the cajun on the outside of the package for me. A true professional. The colored print is done by Maiolo.

Jim Starlin Gambit #18 Cover added

I added the Gambit #18 cover by Jim Starlin to my collection today. The cover features Gambit, Deadpool, Bullseye, Sabretooth, Belladonna, and Batroc as chess pieces in the Assassination Game storyline. I can't get a good scan of it and my camera is broken. Talk about bad luck. In the meantime check out the image as it was taken with my phone.

Randy 'Rantz' Kintz and Derek Fridoulfs

I recently added two commissions/sketches to the Gambit Gallery.
The first is a commission of Gambit & Rogue done by Randy Kintz. Randy has worked on several indy publishers and has contributed art to Jason & The Argonauts, Warrior Angels, amongst others.

The second Gambit piece of art to be added is a sketch from Derek Fridolfs. Derek has a really cool unique animated sytle that is just a lot of fun. He is also an inker and is currently inking Detective Comics over Dustin Nguyen.

The comic art community is a great community. I have met a lot of great people out there who are willing to help one another out with sketches and commissions and tips on where to find rare art. It's really a wonderful thing. These are two examples of that kindness. Clayton Crain NEVER comes to the tristate area. To be honest I don't even know if he does any cons besides Emerald City. Fortunately Colin Solan was able to come through for me by getting this awesome acrylic painting of Gambit & Mr. Sinister by the X-Force & Ghost Rider Marvel exclusive superstar.

Another example is this Gambit sketch by one of my favorite artists Humberto Ramos. I treasure my WWPhilly commission I got from Humberto but am always looking to add more of his art to my collection. This was purchased from Almando Rodriguez who got Humberto to sketch this at Megacon.

I wasn't too familiar with David's work besides working on an X-Men: Divided We Stand backup story and the Patsy Walker: Hellcat miniseries. However, I saw that he was doing sketches for only $20 and his style was really cool. I was standing there talking to him while Brian Bendis walked up to him to discuss their upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man relaunch. As he was personalizing it he decided to write Bendis then corrected it. I expect great things from David in the future.

NYCC 2009: Stefano Caselli, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Fabio D'Auria

After getting my name on Jimmy Cheung's list it was off to Stefano Caselli & Giuseppe Camuncoli's table.

Stefano was recently named one of Marvel's Young Gun artists and it's no wonder why. His work caught my eye when he was working for Devil's Due Publishing because of a little book called Defex. That book was written by Marv Wolfman and was supposed to be an ongoing series but ended up being just a 6 issue miniseries. Nevertheless it was Caselli's art that made me pick up that book. He has recently gone on to work for Marvel and is currently a Marvel exclusive artist. He's worked on Civil War: Young Avengers/Runaways, The Initiative, and is currently working with Brian Bendis on Secret Warriors.
Thanks to Stefano for another great image of Gambit & Rogue.

Sitting next to Stefano was Giuseppe Camuncoli who has worked for Wildstorm doing Captain Atom: Armageddon, the Intimates, and is currently working for Marvel on the X-Men miniseries X-Infernus. Cammo's style is a lot of fun. Thanks Giuseppe for this great Gambit commission and for doing the Iron Fist commission for my brother.

Both pieces were colored by Fabio D'Auria.

NYCC 2009: Jimmy Cheung

In case you have been living under a rock Jimmy Cheung is amazing! His art on Young Avengers propelled him to the superstar artist he is today, but it was his work on X-Force and Uncanny X-Men that introduced me to his unique style. He later went on to cocreate Scion for Crossgen comics. He's currently a Marvel Exclusive artist.

With that introduction I think it should be pointed out that Jimmy Cheung was my number 1 must get commission at NYCC 2009. His art just amazes me and he is an absolute complete professional towards his fans. I've seen 2 pencil commissions he's done of Gambit in the past, but recently he has started to ink and use grey tones on his commissions for an added value to the fan. He spent a lot of Friday working on this and I'm still amazed by how great it looks. I think it perfectly captures the early romance of the characters.

The convention began for me with this incredibly detailed commission of Gambit & Rogue from Philip Tan. Philip has worked on titles such as Uncanny X-Men & Spawn and is currently a DC exclusive artist. Thanks to Kirk Dilbeck for arranging this commission in advance of the show.

2 New Commissions

I just got two new commissions featuring both Gambit & Rogue. The first is by Hoa Phong which was purchased off eBay. It is a montage of the characters and I think he captured the romance of these characters perfectly. See below for this amazing artist's incredible pencil work.

The second is by Tyler Kirkham. I've been hounding Tyler for almost two years to draw Gambit & Rogue for me and it's true...great things come to those who wait. Tyler's work can be seen currently in Ultimate Fantastic Four written by Mike Carey. He has also drawn the high profile miniseries and critically acclaimed Phoenix: War Song written by Greg Pak. In addition he showed that he can draw giant robots in New Avengers/Transformers. He is currently under exclusive contract with Top Cow which shares their contracts with Marvel Comics. Next year we should see Tyler's creator owned character Downfall finally appear in publication. Here's hoping. In the meantime though check out this sweet image of Gambit & Rogue posing in front of the Westchester X-Mansion.
